The Rugby Championship (Shaelic: Aviatau Rúgbiri), known as the Provincial Rugby Championship (Shaelic: Puviniðu Aviatau Rúgbiri) for sponsorship reasons, and often abbreviated PAR (PRC), is the top-level professional rugby union competition in the country. Formed in 1997, PAR played its inaugural season in 1998 with five clubs. It currently features eight professionally-run clubs playing a 14-game regular season schedule from March through August, with a June break for international matches. PAR is organized by the Shaelia Rugby Federation, and is used as the primary feeder for the national team.
